Pick-Up/Drop-Off Service

Remember to include this Pick-up/Drop-off Form with items dropped off at the Norseman.

Once your shoes arrive at Kumpfy Shoes, you will be contacted to confirm repair details and answer any questions you may have. When the repair is complete, you will receive another phone call to confirm drop-off details. Your credit card will be charged at that time.

Pick-up and drop-off times will vary. If your repair is time sensitive please drop your shoes off at Kumpfy Shoes & Repair in Canmore or call us directly at 403-609-2292.

Please note that items can be picked up/dropped off at either location. Repaired items must be picked up within 7 days of drop-off from the Norseman.

Mailing Climbing Shoes

We gladly accept climbing shoes that are mailed to the shop or dropped off by friends/family. We will call you when the package arrives to verify details, give time/cost estimates, and answer questions. Please include this Mail In Form when sending items to us.

If you are unsure whether the repair is possible, give us a call to discuss. Feel free to email photos to cobbler@kumpfyshoes.ca.

Turnaround Time
Our turnaround time is approximately one week from when we receive your shoes in our shop to the day we call you when they are ready. We suggest having at least two pairs of shoes so you always have a pair to play in while the other is getting resoled.

Rubber Choice
Currently, Kumpfy Shoes has the following rubber choices available:

  • Vibram 3.5mm: a good, all-round rubber for the gym and outdoors
  • Vibram XS Grip 4mm: sticky
  • Vibram XS Edge
  • Vibram 5mm: longer lasting, less sensitive, good for 5.6 pitches, not recommend for softer shoes
  • Unparallel RH 4.2mm: same chemical composition as 5.10 C4 Stealth, sticky and wears quickly in the gym

How many times can a climbing shoe be resoled?
Climbing shoes can be resoled a number of times. The uppers will typically break down to the point when you know you have to replace your shoes. If you take care of your shoes and get them resoled before the rand needs to be replaced, you can typically squeak out at least another resole or two.

Climbing Shoe Tips
A few tips about climbing shoes:

#1 – Take care of your shoes. Don’t leave them in a hot car, keep them away from a firepit… you know the drill.

#2 – Check your shoes frequently. Your shoes will need resoling once they lose their edge and before you start working on the rand. Rand rubber is very thin and wears quickly.

#3 – Replacing rands. A blown rand is sometimes obvious and sometimes not-so-obvious on climbing shoes. Occasionally a rand looks OK from the outside, but is structurally weak on the inside and blows when the cobblers are working on the shoes. When in doubt, they will replace your rand. Due to the construction of a climbing shoe, soles must always be replaced when fixing rands.

#4 – Holes in toes suck. As much as Kumpfy Shoes wants to repair your favourite climbing shoes, holes that have gone through the leather can’t be patched. So if you can see skin, it is too late. Please refer to #1.

#5 – Resoled climbing shoes don’t shrink. Climbing shoes are resoled by first removing the layer of rubber under the ball of the foot, then by gluing a new piece of rubber on to the bottom of the shoe. Heat is not used during this process so your shoes will not shrink. However, the shoes may feel a little tighter. Kinda like they were when you first bought them.

#6 – Climbing shoes can be resoled a number of times. The uppers will typically break down to the point when you know you have to replace your shoes.

#7 – Smelly shoes. They are fact of life. Toxic shoes will be sprayed before letting the cobblers start work on them.

#8 – No Edge Technology? La Sportiva “No Edge Technology” climbing shoes can be resoled, but they will receive an edge.

Mailing Hiking Boots

We gladly accept hiking boots that are mailed to the shop or dropped off by friends/family.

Our turnaround time is approximately two to three weeks from when we receive your boots in our shop to the day we call you when they are ready.

Rubber Choice

Not all replacement soles fit all hiking boots and the choices of soles is limited in Canada. Our cobblers will use the most appropriate sole for your boots.
Not all boots can be resoled. This photo shows the type of sole that we can resole.
There are different replacement soles for different boots. We have a range of Vibram soles with different treads to suit different conditions.

Toe/Heel Bales

Currently we do not replace toe or heel bales. We suggest contacting Dave Page Cobbler in Seattle. Or you can always bring us your boots before you destroy the bale.:)

Rands

Rands on hiking boots can be replaced. FYI – rand rubber is thin and wears quickly.

Stretching

Often our customers need their boots stretched. Due to the construction of hiking boots (structured heel and toe counters, thick rands) stretching can be very difficult. Try changing the insole to free up some space in your boots.

Wading Boots

We can replace the felt on wading and fishing boots. We use Vibram rubber produced for Simms.

Hiking Boot Tips

Take care of your hiking boots. Don’t leave them in a hot car, keep them away from a firepit. If they get wet, let them dry naturally if possible. Keep them clean and conditioned.
Check your boots frequently. Your boots will need resoling when the treads wear down and before you start walking on the toe bale.

Birkenstocks

Did you know that Birkenstocks can be resoled? We can replace the entire sole or just the heel/toe. We can also recork Birkenstocks if the uppers are in good shape. Unfortunately, we cannot currently recork the Gizeh and Mayari styles (any thong style). Birkenstocks can last a long time if you take care of them. Remember they don’t like water!

Kumpfy Shoes offers a full cobbler service. That means we fix all types of ladies and men’s dress shoes.
